Welcome to your iPad Basic Training Guide! This guide will help you get started with your device, covering essential functions and features to make your experience smooth.
Getting Started:
Power On/Off: To power on your iPad, press and hold the top button, also known as the Sleep/Wake button, until the Apple logo appears. To turn it off, press and hold the top button and either volume button simultaneously, then drag the slider.
Unlocking: Swipe on the screen to unlock your iPad. If you have set up a passcode or Touch ID, follow the on-screen instructions to unlock.
Navigating Your iPad:
Apps: Tap on any app icon on the Home screen to open it. Swipe left or right to navigate between different Home screen pages.
Multitasking: Swipe up from the bottom of the sc view recently used apps. Swipe left or right to find the app you want to switch to, then tap its icon.
Basic Functions:
Gestures:
Tap: Touch an item on the screen once to select it or open an app.
Swipe: Move your finger across the screen to scroll, navigate between pages, or unlock the iPad.
Pinch: Use two fingers to pinch or spread apart to zoom in or out on photos, web pages, or maps.
Drag: Press and hold an item, then move it to a new location.
Keyboard: Tap on a text field to bring up the keyboard. You can type using the on-screen keyboard or connect a physical keyboard via Bluetooth or the Smart Connector.
Apple Pencil:
Pairing: For iPad models that support it, such as iPad Air, simply attach the Apple Pencil to the side of your iPad magnetically. It will automatically pair and be ready for use.
Charging: Attach the Apple Pencil magnetically to the side of your iPad for wireless charging.
Using the Apple Pencil:
Drawing/Markup: Open an app that supports Apple Pencil input, such as Notes, Pages, or Procreate. Use the Apple Pencil as you would a traditional pencil or pen to draw, sketch, annotate, or markup documents.
Note-Taking: Take handwritten notes in the Notes app. The Apple Pencil offers precision and pressure sensitivity for a natural writing experience
Navigation: Use the Apple Pencil to navigate your iPad by tapping icons, swiping, or selecting items on the screen. It provides a more precise input method compared to your finger.
Care and Maintenance: Avoid dropping or applying excessive pressure to the tip, as this may cause damage. Also, keep the tip clean by periodically wiping with a soft, damp cloth.
Settings:
Accessing Settings: Open the Settings app from the Home screen. Here, you can customize various aspects of your iPad, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, display, sound and more.
Wi-Fi: Connect to a Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi, then selecting your network and entering the password if prompted.
Additional Tips:
App Store: The app store has been disabled for security reasons. If you need an additional application on your device, please submit a helpdesk ticket and someone from our IT Team will review the requested application for approval to install.
Accessibility: Customize accessibility features like VoiceOver, Magnifier, and AssistiveTouch in Settings > Accessibility to make your iPad easier to use.
Battery Life: Monitor your battery usage in Settings > Battery. Adjust settings like brightness and background app refresh to optimize battery life.
What to expect on your Homescreen:
Core Applications:
ArcGIS Field Maps: Mapping application used by field reps to collect data. Requires specific license and has own unique set of credentials for sign-in.
Deltek T&E for Vantagepoint: Time keeping & reporting application used to track time worked.
Google Earth Pro: Mapping application used to help design maps.
Google Chrome: Web browser used for searching and navigating on the internet.
Microsoft Office Suite (Includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook): Productivity applications for creating word documents, presentations, spreadsheets, as well as sending/receiving email messages
Microsoft Teams: All-in-one phone, chat, video communication app. Also, acts as workspace for real-time file collaboration and communication across multiple internal teams.
Microsoft Authenticator: Multi-factor Authentication application required for MFA.
TeamViewer QuickSupport: Remote access application that allows for members of the IT Team to remotely view the iPad and assist with troubleshooting.
